March: a clothing company that kept getting asked for brands

Written in October 2026, from that month's record.

In March, Great Breads was still a clothing company. The orders shipped from the Shopify store, and at the end of the month I wrote to customers myself about their orders.

The other emails that month were a different kind of work. A business called Barburr & Bredrin asked for a brand and a website. A customer asked about a shirt label and then about a logo. By March 31 we had run a build session, set up a domain and sent a plan for next steps.

The clothing taught me something I did not have a word for yet. When someone asks for a shirt, they are usually asking how their business should look to the people it serves. The shirt is just the first thing they can picture.

We have been in Harlem since 2006. That month was the first time the studio's work began to outweigh the store's.
