The $12,500 nobody signed

Here is an invoice for $48,250. It has three lines, and they add up. The date is printed, the terms are printed, and it is past due. It is made up: Harbor & Vine Mechanical billing Kestrel Point Builders, and every name and number is fictional.

One line is change order 7, an added booster set, for $12,500. It has no signature.

Nothing on that invoice is wrong arithmetically. The trouble is that one line has no approval behind it, and a payer can fairly ask about the line that does not. When it comes up, nobody is checking the math. They are asking what was agreed, and the answer lives in someone's memory or an email thread.

A change order is where a job's money changes after the job has started, so we built that flow first. It is raised, costed, shared with the owner, agreed and recorded on one record, and the answer to "what did we agree" is the record. This is the flow Integral Construction of NY runs its change orders on.

Or check your own change orders now. The free change order log opens on this same made-up job, with change order 7 flagged. Type yours over it, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
